As 3D animation and character design becomes increasingly life-like and sophisticated, digital artists have come to rely on tools that make it as simple as possible to capture the complexity and subtlety of organic form. One such tool is ZBrush® from Pixologic®, a digital sculpting application that feels much like working with actual clay. ZBrush makes it possible to create impressively detailed sculptures in a digital environment that is much more intuitive and easy-to-learn than many other 3D modeling applications. At Vitruvian, we've become big fans of ZBrush and the talented artists who use it.
This 8 hour workshop focuses on the fundamentals of sculpting the figure from the live model. Topics will include the basics of the ZBrush workspace, palettes, brushes, and using “Z-Spheres” to create a 3D mesh on which to sculpt. Equal attention will be paid to proportion, gesture, anatomy and other important concepts relevant to sculpting the figure in any medium.
The workshop will be divided into two 4-hour sessions. Instructor Ian Naud will conduct the class through demonstration and individual instruction at each student's machine.
Students are responsible for supplying their own computer and software. Notebook computers and pen tablets are strongly recommended.
