Sculpture by Melinda Whitmore, first-prize winner at the 2008 National Sculpture Society's figure modeling competition.
As all gesture stems from the torso, this class is designed to give students a better understanding of the balance, mass, proportion and anatomy of the human figure by focusing on the relationship betweent the ribcage and pelvis. Using water-based clay, students will begin by building a simple armature and then model a 1/3 to 1/2 life-size sculpture from life. Casting options will be considered for outside class time.
