This class is intended for those who are are new to painting the figure. Students are taught to use a traditional but very limited palette of colors that allows for mixing beautiful flesh tones without the confusion of managing multiple pigments. This 16th and 17th century Dutch palette offers a range of color that is perfect for flesh tones, allowig students to grasp quickly the most important elements of successful painting: value and temperature. This course will also teach students about the simplicity and harmony of color relationships for figure painting. Understanding how colors interact with each other leads to greater control of the palette and ultimately to better painting. Even with such a limited palette a full range of color can be found, leading to greater confidence in color mixing. One single pose for the entire class will allow students to develop a clear underpainting - the imprimatura - and to investigate the beautiful variety of color that this palette offers for flesh tones.
What I liked best about this class was my teacher. I cannot say enough good things about her. In time I hope to paint half as well as she does. Because of her positive nature I always felt comfortable in class and she always took time to encourage growth in all her students. She is a gift!
