Lecture Diagram from Anatomy of the Head.

Ever thought about taking an anatomy class but felt put off by the prospect of obscure terminology and difficult material? If so, then Anatomy Basics is for you. This eight week class covers all the "greatest hits" of human musculo-skeletal anatomy - the structures that have the most influence on surface form - and concisely offers the information that is most useful to figurative artists. This is our only anatomy class that does not feature écorché sculpting in the studio. Rather, in-class lectures with supporting diagrams are paired with drawing from the model, so that students have an immediate opportunity to explore with the pencil the structures covered in class, and thereby clarify their understanding. This class is useful on its own or as preparation for any of our écorché classes.

The student is strongly encouraged to step away from the computer monitor, pick up a pencil or a brush, and attend some life drawing classes. Likewise, working with digital clay is much more meaningful if you've spent some time sculpting actual clay. Your digital artwork will reveal much about who you are as how much time you have taken to study and explore traditional art techniques as well as the natural world.
