In a (not so) surprising development today, Pearl announced that after some 20 years in business in Chicago they'll be closing their doors by the end of the month. This is not entirely unexpected given that their in-store stock has been dwindling steadily for as long as we can remember (Mindy swears they haven't had water-based clay in stock in over a year-and-a-half). As we understand it, the Canal St. store in New York will remain open, as will Tampa and select other locations, but many of the smaller branches, including Chicago's, are toast.
We're sad to see them go. We've all been spoiled here having a supply store so close by, and we'll miss the convenience of just running across the street to pick-up whatever. Our best wishes go to the store staff, some of whom have been working there for as long as the store has been open... Hard times, indeed.
